THE CLIMATE OLYMPICS
In response to the urgent measures needed to address Climate Change, we were inspired to develop a unifying global initiative called the Climate Olympics.
The science of motivation tells us that positive reinforcement is the most powerful motivator for change, and an initiative such as this could galvanize efforts using this strategy. Our vision is that countries worldwide would have the opportunity to win medals in a variety of categories related to the climate crisis. For example, in the area of ending deforestation, perhaps ten countries could be nominated for medals. Each nation would win a medal of distinction for the nomination. The three top countries would receive medals in bronze, silver, and gold.
The vision of the Climate Olympics, is that individuals, businesses, and governments would compete and collaborate globally on sustainability challenges.
The launch of the Climate Olympics is planned as a global Concert for Our Children’s Earth this fall. We will be asking individuals watching the concert globally to take a sustainability pledge. We will be calling this pledge, the Pledge for Our Children. It is based on a sustainability pledge developed by the United Nations Environmental Program. We’re also hoping to support the Move-the-Money campaign at this concert.
Countries will compete based on the percentage of their population that takes the pledge. We anticipate awarding five gold, silver, and bronze medals to the highest achieving countries.
